1928-36 Ford Front Hydraulic Juice Drum Brake Adapter Kit
The old hot rodder’s secret! Upgrade from those ineffective mechanical front brakes to Ford’s first hydraulic drum brake system, often referred to as “Ford juice brakes.”
This kit is used to adapt ’37-’48 Ford drum brake backing plates and ’40 Ford hubs (such as our 91065450 hubs) to Model A, Model B, or 1932-1936 Ford front spindles. The set includes a pair of spacers to go between the spindles and the backing plates, as well as a pair of bearing spacers. One set will take care of both front wheels of your car.
The included bearing spacer is 0.335″ thick and will space the inner bearing out that distance, so expect a 0.67″ track width increase when using these adapters.
The included adapter rings snap inside the hole on ’37-’48 Ford backing plates to decrease the I.D. to the correct size to center the backing plate onto 1928-1936 Ford spindles. The rings are grooved on the outside to keep them securely in place on the backing plates. You may need to elongate the holes in the backing plates to match up to the Model A or B spindles having 3-1/16” center to center spacing as opposed to the 3-3/8” spacing on the later backing plates.
The bearing spacers position the hub bearings correctly and provide the seal surface for the required ’40 Ford style hubs. The factory steering arms are not affected, however the top of the ’28-’36 spindle will require some minor clearancing for the backing plate to seat properly.
